Physician - Discography
Discography:
Disc stimulation is used for the diagnosis of discogenic syndrome, as well as a precursor to surgical intervention. Discography in the lumbar spine involves the injection of a contrast agent. The objective is also to characterize the pain response (if any) on disc injection and observe whether this reproduces the patient's usual pain so as to confirm the disc as the source of the pain. Manometry (pressurized digital manometry) is recommended to identify abnormal pain response at low pressures (< 50 psi).
1
It is generally accepted among clinicians that discography is the most reliable test to diagnose discogenic pain.
2
Pressure controlled discography has also been shown to reduce false positives.
3
The AccuMeter pressure measurement syring uses digital manometric pressure readings in discography to provide quantitative results that are easy to interpret thereby assisting to confirm or deny the source of pain prior to treatment.
AccuMeter
AccuMeter Printer
The AccuMeter was the first device cleared by FDA for use in the diagnosis of herniated discs. It is designed exclusively for measurement at lower pressures such as those used in this procedure. AccuMeter uses digital manometric pressure readings in discography to provide quantitative results that are easy to interpret thereby diagnosing herniated or otherwise diseased intervertebral discs in the spine prior to treatment.
